Open Studio - General info

Open Studio brings together all of our fine arts disciplines: ceramics, pottery, silverclay, glass beads, jewellery design drawing & painting, fashion design, knitting and crochet, digital & analogue photography, darkroom, screen printing, woodworking and leatherworkingt. It gives you the chance to work on your own creative projects under the supervision of our assistants and get inspired by the rest of the community.

At Open Studio, each discipline is freely accessible with an X subscription on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon when there is an assistant present for your discipline. The only thing you have to do is to register one day in advance from 13:00. In the webshop you can find which studios will be open this weekend. You are welcome as long as you have reached an intermediate or advanced level in your discipline. This means you either have done one or more courses at X or you gained your experience elsewhere. The assistant is present to help you if needed; to give tips and advice, and to ensure that all materials and equipment are being used responsibly and safely.

Are you not very experienced yet with crafting, please feel welcome in the Painting Studio to draw or paint, or in our new MAKE studio for lots of DIY projects such as working with air-drying clay and needle felting.

NEW: Every 1st Saturday of the month there is a special edition: ‘Open Studio Walk-in’. You may bring someone along if you have signed up for Open Studio. That person does not need to have any experience or an X subscription. You can then show what you are working on yourself, or work on something together if that person already has experience. Please note: Your plus-1 does not have their own workspace; you share it. It’s a great opportunity to show the studio where you like to spend your free time, and who knows, your friends might soon start coming to the studios themselves.

Materials are available but are not included in the price of the X subscription and need to be paid. In some studios you are also welcome to bring your own materials, more information is available with the assistant.

The Open Studio is coordinated by assistants. Our assistants are volunteers. The Open Studio is only available when there are sufficient assistants. Therefore sometimes some of the studio’s will not be available during a weekend. Please have a look at the availability of other studio’s or sign up for our MAKE studio in which you can do DIY projects.
