Open Studio: Pottery
Pottery is a form of ceramics we come across every single day in items as teacups, soup bowls, jars, and vases. All these round shapes are made by throwing clay on a turning table before the clay is fired in the kiln at a minimum temperature of 1000 ˚C, after which it can be decorated and glazed. Pottery requires a lot of practice, but it’s an art that allows you to develop your own personal style.
Open Studio
During Open Studio Pottery, you may work with the techniques, tools and materials that you have been instructed in during your classes. Clay, glazes, slip, pigments and plaster are available to purchase.
The Open Studio assistant is available to provide advice and guidance where needed and to ensure that materials and equipment are used safely and responsibly.
By registering for Open Studio Pottery, you reserve a pottery wheel. If you do not intend to use a pottery wheel, please register for Open Studio Ceramics instead.
Please note that the number of pottery wheels is limited. If you are not using your wheel for part of your booked session, please let the studio assistant know so that another participant can use it.
Important:
Open Studio Pottery is open to participants with an X membership who have completed the Pottery: Intermediate course. Participation is possible when an Open Studio assistant is present. If you have gained experience on the pottery wheel elsewhere, you may also take part with the permission of one of the tutors. Tutors are available at the end of the afternoon and during the evening on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
The studio is not open to participants who have only completed the Pottery: Beginners course.
