Leatherworking

Leatherworking is a craft rooted in precision, patience, and attention to detail. The entire process, from cutting to finishing, is done by hand. A signature technique is the saddle stitch, where two needles and strong thread are used to create a durable, long-lasting seam. Traditional tools are essential: pricking irons to mark stitching holes, a burnishing stick and leather cream to smooth and polish the edges, and tools like a bone folder or straightedge for sharpening blades and making clean folds. While machines can speed up production, many fashion houses still favour this artisanal approach. Valuing the quality, durability, and refined finish that handcrafting provides.

Groepcourse - all levels

In deze cursus werk je met hoogwaardig leer en maak je unieke, handgemaakte producten. Je start met het maken van een tas, zoals een festivaltas of een tote bag. Als er tijd over is, kun je ook kleinere accessoires maken, zoals een telefoonhoesje, brillenkoker, portemonnee of een AirPod-hoesje.

Er zijn patronen beschikbaar die je tijdens de cursus of, als je een X-abonnement hebt, tijdens open studio-uren kunt gebruiken. Heb je de basis onder de knie, dan kun je ook je eigen ontwerp realiseren, zolang het ontwerp geschikt is voor beginners. Kies bijvoorbeeld voor een grotere tas of laptophoes, of richt je op kleinere objecten.

Je maakt tijdens de cursus kennis met diverse gereedschappen en technieken. Leer de kunst van leerbewerking en creëer functionele objecten met jouw eigen, persoonlijke stijl.
