Karate

Karate is a dynamic martial art that originated in China and was further developed in Okinawa, Japan. It has since spread worldwide. Karate emphasizes striking techniques such as punches, kicks and knee strikes, as well as defensive manoeuvres like blocks and evasions. Practitioners, known as karatekas, train to develop strength, speed, flexibility and discipline through the rigorous practice of kata (forms) and kumite (sparring). With its rich history and emphasis on both physical and mental development, karate offers a holistic approach to self-defence and personal growth.  

Ticket hour - All levels

During this ticket hour, we will practice a style of karate called Kyokushinkai. Like other karate styles, Kyokushinkai is originally a Japanese martial art. This particular style was invented by Masutatsu Oyama, a Korean who lived in Japan. Kyokushinkai is known as the hardest and often the only official form of ’full contact’ karate. It is a fully-fledged karate style in which the karate components of kihon, kumite, kata and tameshiwari (breaking test) are all mandatory components in exams, although tameshiwari is not practised in all Kyokushinkai schools. This is enhanced by goshin-jitsu (self-defence).

Kyokushinkai is characterized by disciplined and enthusiastic practice. Traditionally, the Kokoro (fighting spirit), the Bushido (warrior code) and the dojo-kun (dojo rules) are highly regarded in every authentic dojo. The fight itself is the focus of this karate style, which is also known as the 'world's hardest karate'.

This ticket hour is suitable for all levels and you do not need to be an experienced practitioner to attend. Those with experience in other karate styles are also welcome.
