Judo

Judo is a modern Japanese martial art that was created by Jigoro Kano in 1882. This sport is based on the martial art of jiu jitsu. The biggest difference between these two sports is that in judo, with the exception of 'kata', you do not use kicks or punches. One of the most important concepts in judo is to be as effective as possible using as little effort as possible. You can do this by using your opponent's strength against him, for example.

Ticket hour - All levels

During the beginners lessons you learn the basic judo techniques. The lesson always starts with a warming-up, where after you will start with basic technique exercises, such as throws, counter attacks, combinations, holds, arm locks and chokes. Sparring is an important part of judo, and takes place in the form of practice fights (also called ‘randori’). At the end of the beginners lessons you will have mastered the falling techniques and be able to perform some of the basic techniques. You will also have the chance to take belt examinations in which you demonstrate the techniques you have learned. A committee decides which level of competence you have achieved (indicated by coloured belt).
