Jewellery Design: Silver Clay

Silver clay is exactly what you imagine it to be: clay of pure silver, which you can even work with. As a residual product of the photo industry at the end of the 1980s, silver clay was created in Japan. Particles of fine silver combined with a binding agent and water. Without too much prior knowledge, you can make beautiful jewellery and objects with it by modelling, polishing in the 'clay' form and after baking (it has to be heated to 650 degrees Celsius for at least 30 minutes) polishing again.The clay exists in several forms; clay in paste form, clay in syringe form, clay in paper form and just 'clay'. In contrast to "ordinary goldsmithing", not many tools are needed and the oven for firing can often be bypassed by using a gas burner or the gas cooker.

Group course - All levels

During the course you will learn to work with the Silverclay to create beautiful jewellery or small art pieces. In this six-week program you can work on your own piece of jewellery which can be worn daily or that stands out as an art piece for special occasions, you can think of earrings, pendants, rings and more. It is also possible to work on small and detailed art pieces. To be able to make your jewellery or art piece, you will use and combine the different types of clay (in paste, syringe or normal clay form) and you will use several techniques to shape the clay. Finishing is done by using the gas burner to bake the clay and finally polishing to get that amazing shiny result.
