House Dance

House Dance originated in the 1980s and is a dance style based on house music. You can recognise House Dance from the many energetic dance moves and the fast footwork. The roots of House Dance lie in clubs in Chicago and New York; it was formed from a range of cultural dance styles, including African dance, Latin dance, tap dance, jazz, hip hop, breakdance and martial arts. House Dance invites you to move freely, to lose yourself in the music and to express that in your dancing. It's a dance style packed with self-expression and freestyle is an important aspect of the lessons.  

Group course - Intermediate

Level up your house dance skills. This 7-week course is designed for those who want to dive deeper in house dance and culture. We’ll touch upon the fundamentals or house dance, lots of exploration and creativity and a deeper understanding of the culture. 

In these 7-week course we will dive into:

• Roots & Cultural Awareness – Getting a little bit of more insight of the history and important values to be part of this community. 
• Foundation & Variations – Sharpen those key steps and make them your own.
• Transitions, connections & sequencing – Finding a better flow between the steps and approaching them authentically. 
• Musicality – A deep dive in musicality, how to seperate and understand house music so we can translate ourselves dynamically. 
• Spins, Turns & Spatial Awareness – Technical approach of turning, how to practice and how to use and claim the space when you move. 
• Floorwork - How to move on the floor sustainably, strenght and techniques, tools how to improve your floorwork self practice. 
• Social dance and Cypher etiquette – Drop low, work with others, and understand the responisbilities of participating in a cypher converstation. 

By the end of this course, you’ll have a broader technical base, stronger musicality, and overall feel more confident to move independently, so you can find your unique voice as mover and dancer in the inspiring and colourful world of house.

The course is intended for intermediate dancers with a bit of experience in House or other street dance styles. If you’ve already been exposed to the culture or have a solid understanding of dance foundations.

Noëlle Vosman

Dance and movement have always been a constant in Noëlle Vosman's life. After studying at the dance academy Lucia Marthas, she started focusing on the dance style house. To her, house dance means freedom, connection and unity. Together with friends from Rotterdam, she builds the platform HouseJamRotterdam, where everyone is welcome to share, learn and exchange the passion for house. She is also active in the dance scene and has participated in several national and international dance battles, such as Juste Debout and International Dance League. In her classes, she mainly focuses on feeling: "House is a feeling and the steps come after." She lovingly shares her passion for the style, music and culture. "Come and get a feel!"
