Filting: Wet felting a bag
Felting is a beautiful and age-old craft in which wool truly comes to life. Through a combination of friction, moisture, and warmth, the wool fibres interlock, creating a strong and cohesive material. Under the microscope, you can see how the fine scales of the fibres grip onto one another; a fascinating natural process that forms the foundation of this craft. There are two main techniques: wet felting and dry felting (needle felting). In wet felting, the fibres are brought together using water and movement, while needle felting involves a special barbed needle to compact and shape the wool. Both techniques offer endless possibilities for experimenting with form, texture, and expression.
