Contemporary Dance
Contemporary dance is a collective term for dance styles that have evolved from modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Well-known contemporary choreographers are Ohad Naharin, Anne Teresa de Keersmaker, Jiří Kylián and TU Delft alumnus Arno Schuitemaker.
Course levels
Margarida, our teacher for this course, approaches the body as malleable matter. She frequently addresses natural physical forces, lines drawn in space and the reorganization of the body's flow.
Her classes are structured as a five-chapter workshop series designed to guide students through a progression of contemporary dance concepts. Each chapter builds upon the previous, fostering a deeper understanding of movement, partnering, improvisation and composition.
The series culminates in the collective creation of a choreography derived from these learned tools. The overarching goal is to cultivate articulate, versatile, and thinking dancers who can move with intention and express themselves authentically.
