Breakdance

Breaking, also known as breakdancing, is a high-energy street dance that emerged in the 1970s in the Bronx as part of hip-hop culture. It combines four key elements: toprock (standing moves), downrock (groundwork), power moves (acrobatics), and freezes (unique poses). Influenced by the likes of tap, martial arts and Afro-Latin styles, breaking quickly became a global phenomenon, evolving with modern influences and gaining recognition as an Olympic sport debuting in 2024. Known for its creativity and competitive battles, breaking continues to thrive as a dynamic blend of athleticism, artistry, and cultural expression.

Group course - beginners

In the beginner course, you'll learn all the basics of breaking: toprocks (standing dance), downrocks (floor movements), freezes (cool poses), and the first steps towards powermoves (acrobatic moves). You'll have plenty of freedom to try things out and do them in your own way, so you can start developing your own style right from the beginning. In addition, you'll work on your sense of rhythm, learn to dance freely, and do exercises that enhance your strength and flexibility – essential for breaking.

We'll work together towards a show at the end of the course, where you can showcase your new moves to the world!

During the course, you’ll explore the history, culture, music, and fundamentals of breaking. You’ll develop your own breaking style while improving your physical strength and skills. By the end of the course, you’ll be an enthusiastic breaker with a passion for the culture!

Practical information

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes that allow you to move freely. Personally, I prefer long pants. Choose shoes with moderately thin soles. If you plan to do headstands or want to learn them, a hoodie or beanie is highly recommended, especially in the beginning. Additionally, bringing a bottle of water and a small towel is always a good idea!
