Ballroom - Blue Suede Shoes

Want to get carried away with music and learn the technique of different dance styles? The Ballroom courses will train you in just that! Learn the standard dances from the European ballrooms of yesteryear, like the Quickstep and Slow Waltz, as well as Latin American dances like the Cha-Cha-Cha, Jive and Samba.

Association Training - All Levels

Open practices
Delft Student Dance Association (D.S.D.A.) Blue Suede Shoes organizes open practices for Ballroom.
Every quarter, you can take Ballroom courses at X. During the open practice evenings, you can rehearse what you have learned during the course and ask fellow dancers for tips. The practices are a place where people socialize and train.

Everyone is welcome, from beginner to advanced dancer. Even if you are not a member of the association, you are very welcome to drop by; the first time is free of charge. We will take care of the music, so the only thing you need to bring is your enthusiasm and, if you have them, your dancing shoes.

See the Blue Suede Shoes website for location and times of the practices. Signing up beforehand is not required but is appreciated.

Technique lessons
D.S.D.A. Blue Suede Shoes organizes technique lessons, in collaboration with X. The only way to participate in these lessons is as a member of the association, so make sure you have registered with the association in advance. Subscription for the technique classes is on a per-semester basis. See this Blue Suede Shoes website page for details, schedule, location, costs, and dates. The first two classes of a semester are free and for these classes, no membership is required.

The technique lessons are for Ballroom dancers who want to further develop themselves and want to focus on the details of the ballroom dances. In these lessons you will not learn any new steps, but we will focus on how to perform the steps you already know in a better, nicer way. The lessons are divided into Ballroom Standard and Ballroom Latin lessons, which are each given every other week. Members can choose if they want to do either or both. You do not need to subscribe with a partner, since the lessons mainly focus mainly on everyone’s personal development and only a small part is danced in couples.

A lesson usually starts with a good warming-up. After that, a specific subject will be introduced on which the lesson will focus. Examples of specific subjects are: posture and footwork in Standard or correct use of hips in Latin. Most lessons will start with learning some general technique, thereafter some exercises are done to get the right feeling for that technique and the lessons end with implementing the technique in the dance itself. At the end of a semester, all techniques will be briefly repeated and practiced.

The members that take the lessons have already highly improved in their technique and are very enthusiastic about their increased results in competitions.
